Here is an interview with Mark Alder of MA Construction. Mark is one of the most prolific givers we have come across in BNI, passing lots of referrals and having brought a remarkable number of 48 new visitors to the chapter during the past 12 months.

1. What do you enjoy most about what you do?

MARK: I enjoy working closely with clients on projects from start to finish and seeing how happy they are with project on completion with both value and quality. I find happy customers are a great way of my business being a success.

2. What advice would you give someone just starting out in your line of business?

MARK: Always give value for money and never do quantity over quality. Treat every client as your biggest and you wont go wrong.

3. What one thing would you do with your business if you knew you could not fail?

MARK: I would go national to become one of the major companies in the construction industry in the UK, getting Britain building the right way again, producing jobs at the right rates for our trades as it was before the recession hit us.

4. What do you see as the coming trends in your sector of business?

MARK: I see social media as the coming trend as I?ve had great success in generating business in the short time I?ve been using it. I would recommend anyone in business who doesn?t use social media try it.

5. Describe the strangest or funniest incident you?ve experienced in your business?

MARK: I recently did some work for one of the biggest construction companies in the North West and was told by the labour manager of the company, the main man of the company couldn?t believe my company wanted to work for his company and that he hoped I would take on all his projects. Obviously I was flattered and found this bizarre, but took the opportunity with both hands.

6. What ways have you found to be the most effective for promoting your business ?

MARK: I find word of mouth is the best way of getting business and do no advertising at all due to the success I have had with word of mouth.

7. What one sentence would you like people to use in describing the way you do business?

MARK: Mark is the best builder you could ask for and gives you the faith you need when having building work done on your property.
